Here is what we did

Oct 18-Monday

Day 26
Chem 112 P3-Quiz on molecular formulas. We will be starting Unit 3 on Moles. You will be introduced to the terms mole, Avogadro's number and molar mass. You will finish pair assignment from friday's class(period 3). Assigned questions p 296 7,8,10 to 12 and #15 If time permits we will start group review problems for wednesday's test. We will also go over some formulas to be careful about.
Assignment on properties due today. It was assigned last tuesday.
Chem 122-We will start group work and watch the rest of the Haber Process Video(tommorrow). I will also go over another Ksp questionand a common ion question from your worksheet.
The other solutions to the handout are attached below. We managed to get two stations of group work almost complete.

Chem 121-Today you worked with heating and cooling curves. We went over the answers from last thursday's work. I also did a homework check.
Homework: Do #1 from the handout after you complete the question we did in class today for cooling steam 3.8 grams from 130 to -12 Celsius.

Info below is not part of todays work.....
Do 14 and 15 on p 516 and p 517 18, 19.Please use Sample problem from p516 as a guide. Ans. 14. 6.63 kJ and . 89.4 kJ 18. -1204kJ 19. 372 kJ On p 514 and 515 summarize the difference between reactions that are endo and exothermic. Give an example of each type of reaction and also give an enthalpy diagram. We will go over the prelab for wednesday.

Assigned questions.p 521 #21, 22 p 524 #23 and 24. You will do some more group work with q and delta H. You will receive a short assignment that works with enthalpy and expressing reactions the proper way. We compared exo and endo thermic again and tied it into reaction equations. On p 523 there is a diagram of a heating curve. Please put this into your notebook.

Oct 19-Tuesday

Day 27
Chemistry 112-Group Review for the test on wednesday on Unit 2 Ch 9 P3 We wil go over some answers to sheet on irregular polyatomics, as I did this with p 5 yesterday.
I will put up a picture of an overview of the four category of substances(as soon as I get out of the meeting I am presently attending)

The site below has a review file click open the powerpoint for Ch 9(beside the title for chapter 9 there are two files pdf and ppt..the ppt is really good for review).....NOTEwe did NOT do the classical system that is listed on the powerpoint ( section 9.5.)

Chem 121-I have an appointment that I must attend this afternoon so Miss Fawcett will be with you today. You will be doing an in class assignment to pass in that involves section 17.3 in your textbook. You will also do a detailed heating curve question to pass in. Since I will not be able to do a pre-lab with you, the labs will begin on thursday. Homework: Worksheet #2, #3 and using p 511 and 512 compare in a list the difference between a constant volume and constant pressure calorimeter.
Chem 122-We will finish our group review for wednesday's test which covers ch 18.

Oct 20-Wednesday

Day 28
Chem 122-Test on Ch 18 today
Chem 112 -Test on Unit 2 today (9.1, 9.2,9.3,9.4)

Chem 121-Labs will start tomorrow. We will do our prelab today.Reminder: No open toed shoes or contact lenses. New work for today will involve enthalpy of reactions. We will learn the difference between exo and endothermic reactions. Assigned questions from handout #6 and #7 and textbook p 516 14, 15 as well as p 517 18, 19
For labs tomorrow check the Chem 121 link to see which group you are in and be sure to have the prelab questions done neatly on looseleaf in order to gain admittance to the lab

Day 29
Chem 122-
New unit starting today Ch 19 dealswith acids, bases and salts. We are going to start with 19.2 in class. New work on pH, POH and Kw and hydronium and hydroxide ion concentration.Homework tonight: p 596 9, 10 and copy diagram from the middle of the page 597 into your notebook. You will be doing some theory work from 19.1 for homework on your own for monday. Please make up one page of notes and on the reverse of the page make up ten questions that cover the theory from 19.1, next write the answers.Tthis will be passed in on monday for marks.
Chem 121- Lab day 1 Do not forget mole day tomorrow.

Chem 112 -New work today with the formula relating moles mass and molar mass. P 3 p 296 7,8,10 to 12 were assigned for today . Please finish p 298 16, 17 and 1 to 5 and 1 to 5 from top left side of handout that you received. P 5 You were assigned p 296 7, 8, 10 to 12 and p 298 16, 17 .

Oct 22-Friday

Day 30

"Happy Mole Day To You" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReMe348Im2w&feature=related

Chem 122-. We will go over the relationship between pH and pOH again as well as Kw and H+and OH - You will get some calculator practise with these calculations ...you did the bottom left of the handout. Once this was done you did the top left side of the of the sheet . Do not forget that section 19.1 had homework that was assigned yesterday for monday's class. Mole Day is tomorrow....You may bring in something that is mole related if you wish :)

Chem 121. We will celebrate mole day during the first half of class. Monday is lab day 2 so please make sure the prelab is complete for day 2. You may bring in something to celebrate mole day. Please be sure to wear proper footwear on monday as well as no contacts for monday's lab.

Chem 112 -Today you will learn about the importance of mole day, get an introduction for converting moles to particles and particles to mole. Finally we will celebrate mole day with chemgo(monday). Assigned work for the weekend bottom left side of handout. Period 5 will also do the top left of the worksheet and be introduced to converting moles to mass and working with particles. I assigned the bottom left side of the worksheet.(hopefully this class will now be caught up because of the power outage (last friday)
